VirtualBox issue - I've got Windows 8.1 working perfectly but I cannot get CoreDRAW X4 to install under it as Windows 11 is interfering in the setup.
During install I get *Program Compatibility Assistant* warning. This app can't be run on this device.
How can I turn this off so I can install CDX4?
TIA

Are saying that you are running W8.1 under virtualbox, if so W11 will not innterfere with the install, how are you trying to run the installer?

Although the install is started under Win8.1 it seems its the Win11 Compatibility checker that's getting involved.0 -

I don't want the steal @debitcardmayhem's thunder here as they have pretty much located the problem, but to be specific it sounds like the DVD drive isn't mounted/mapped to the virtual machine and instead is launching on the host.1

Have you tried installing it in compatibilty mode?Right click the installer/exe file >properties>compatibilty (made need "show more options" to find this)>tick run in compatibility mode>select an older version of windows (such as 7)>applyYou can disable it through services.msc but it's been so long since I used windows 8 I can't remember if it's the same as 10/11... I'll have a look.Always try to be at least half the person your dog thinks you are!1

Create a folder on your windows 11 Host , copy the whole of the CD/DVD into that folder, then in virtualbox share that folder with your Win8 machineSelect settings , thenClick on the + Add shared folderBrowse to the Path/Folder etc and give it a mount point on your W8 instance and select auto-mountThen run the setup from that folder in W84.8kWp 12x400W Longhi 9.6 kWh battery Giv-hy 5.0 Inverter, WSW facing Essex . Although the install is started under Win8.1 it seems its the Win11 Compatibility checker that's getting involved.I don't see how "the install is started under Win8.1 it seems its the Win11 Compatibility checker that's getting involved" is even possible. What you do in the virtual machine (with the guest operating system, in your case Win8.1) is of no concern to the host operating system (in this case Windows 11), unless the VM client itself was doing something highly irregular (and even then the most likely outcome is the client would just crash or you'd have a blue screen generated by Windows 11) - they are effectively just massive files on your hard drive.I think what you might have done is change the compatibility options in Windows 11 for VIrtualbox when you talk about persisting. That's not what you want because those settings will not apply to any guest operating systems, it would only apply to the VM client itself. The mentions of compatibility mode need to be made to the setup files of CorelDraw while those are in Windows 8.1 and the changes made in Windows 8.1 - not from Windows 11.0 -
Many thanks for all the help. I’ve now got it to install which is excellent. I followed the above steps in copying the install files to a folder using Windows 11 and then sharing this folder inside the VirtualBox settings for Win8.1. Thanks for this to debitcardmayhem1

I sometimes find a program will not install from the shared folder and have to move the installation files to the C:/ drive of the virtual machine
