I am carer for a disabled person.  They live in a resdential park home.  Electric is supplied by the park so need only a gas supplier.  Because of this a smart meter can't be fitted as the electric meter is on the other side of park.  To far away to get a signal. They could do with one to save them keep reading the meter. As its outside and low to the ground.
Who would be the best gas only supplier who could also read the meter on the regulary basis.
Hope for everything and expect nothing!!!

Although it is possible to have gas as Smart only I don't think anyone offers it (I have two commercial supplies which have their own battery pack/transmitter)

The Priority Services Register will enable quarterly read.

PS You are talking Mains gas and not bottled ?
Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

Any supplier should agree to undertake to regular meter readings if the homeowner is disabled and on the Priority Services Register. The present supplier would be my first port of call.

If the electricity meter is smart (and working in smart mode) then there should seldom be any need for the customer to read it.  If the customer does need to read it then the portable IHD can be taken near to the meter.
Is there a gas supply available close to the dwelling?
It may not be possible for the gas meter to operate in smart mode if it's too far away from the electricity meter.  The answer would be to move the smart electricity meter to the dwelling but presumably this might be chargeable.
Is the customer on the Priority Services Register?

He is registered on the PRS but not sure he has told them what help he needs.  His supplier at the moment did want him to pay silly amounts just for gas £179 a month.  Even though we have worked out his last years usage and added 20% on to that and worked out the cost on the current price.  Don't ask the figures as I can't remember them now.  But they still wanted way more than what we worked out. But he has got it down to £117 a month at the moment.

Yes its main gas.  I just had smart meters fitted this morning and spoke to the installation person and they said they didn't know of any smart gas meter that he could have.

I will get him to ring his supplier next time I am there so I can listen to what is being said. Still think he wants to move supplier as he is just not happy with his current one.

    Contact smart.help@octopus.energy

Apprise them of the OP’s situation and see what help they could provide. It is possible to link a smart gas meter to a local hub which is not powered by the smart electricity meter.
