Chipboard (IKEA Cupboard) as loft sheets?

Well, there is that too!0

Even with proper loft boards (the ones made of OSB rather than chipboard) you can find yourself in a situation where two edges that meet need a bit of timber screwed to the underneath to give strength and they have tongue and groove edges to help them keep in line - so I'd say it's probably not worth using the stuff you have, especially if you will walk on it.0

Incidentally our loft had some kitchen unit sides laid over the joists. One snapped when I walked on one and I had a lucky escape!0

You will need loft legs anyway to have full insulation levels, so you may as well buy the correct boards while at the shop and save the broken legs you may get when you fall through.

Thanks all! Maybe I’ll think twice about using these boards then! We’ve got some burly (24mm I think) MDF boards that have been used up there for years (without issues it seems), so perhaps I’ll just stick to those!0

I get free old internal doors from facebook marketplace, remove handles n hinges = solid wood loft boards ... Amazing what people give away!(please no one tell me it was a bad idea; they're screwed in place now)1

I’ve not used doors for loft boards… but I do use them for workbenches (over two saw horses)!1
