This hall thermostat has been on the wall for 18 years. We will soon be replacing it with a Hive unit.

How do I remove it?

I have tried pulling, twisting and inserting a screwdriver in the slot on the left side.

Thanks

A man walked into a car showroom.
He said to the salesman, “My wife would like to talk to you about the Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
Salesman said, “We haven't got a Volkswagen Golf in the showroom window.”
The man replied, “You have now mate".

You probably do need to put a screwdriver in the hole to undo a clip, but over the years plastic can get a lot harder, so the black part may not move enough to unclip it from the white front.

I would get a bit more destructive. Put a big flat blade into the clip at about a 45 degree angle, and try and prise the white cover outwards ( or snap off the little bit of the cover where it goes around the hole
  • There is a clip holding the cover on in that black slot on the left hand side. Insert a screwdriver into that slot and pull it forward towards the front of the cover to remove the clip from the cover. While doing so, rotate the cover clockwise and it should just twist off
