    Hello OP

A full HD TV displays in 1080p where as a HD Ready TV displays in 780p, the HD Ready TV will accept a HD source but downgrades the resolution so it's better than SD but not as good as HD.

Was this a national store (e.g Currys)?

It's always a bit difficult with information given verbally but it's worth a try to get a refund if you aren't happy, worst they can say is no.

We use a Firestick for everything so I'm out of touch with how TVs get standard TV channels these days, I think a HD Ready TV can pick up HD channels it's just they are only display in sort of half HD.

Perhaps someone else can advise whether you should be able to pick up HD channels simply via tuning rather than having a plug in box/stick/etc and if you should be able to why you aren't.

If it turns out you can't receive any HD channels at all on a HD Ready TV then I'd certainly push for a refund but wouldn't mention the other better/cheaper TV when returning as it might come across as change of mind rather than a valid complaint about what was said :)
I dont mind using a firestick if it will receive HD channels. But, my grievance is that I feel I wasn't sold something I wanted, it doesn't seem to do what I want it to, in its original state. I have to buy something extra to get HD channels. I shouldnt have to do that really.

Yes, you got it! Currys 😒 notorious for not liking to refund or passing book to manufacturer.

Which model is it ?  Currys are only showing one LG 24", 24TQ510S-PZ, which is showing on the LG site as having a DVB-T2 tuner.

Is the problem possibly that you and the salesperson were talking past each other and misunderstanding? An HD Ready TV is capable of displaying HD channels at 720p while a Full HD TV will display them at 1080p. However both require an HD source to display which for broadcast HD means a Freeview decoder. Nowadays a lot/most/almost all of TVs have these built in but seems that yours doesn't. Feels like you've maybe been sold an old model?

As for returning it, you're not really entitled to a change of mind but if you go back they may well have offered you one but since you've binned the packaging I think they'll be reluctant to accept it now.

Alternative solution is get a Freeview HD box (if you don't want to spend a lot then check Ebay or local FB and you should be able to pick one up for next to nothing) or a Firestick or similar to get channels via Wi-Fi on iPlayer etc.
