I’ve just moved to a new property.
im not sure what company the previous tenants were with for gas and electricity?
is there a particular company to go with for gas/electricity or should I just stick with whatever company/rate I am automatically on?
thanks

You must - to start with - use whoever they did.

As soon as you've set up that account though, you can move wherever you want.3 -

Standard tariffs are about as good as you'll get these days, but suppliers are beginning to introduce fixes once again, which will at least mean you know what rate you'll be paying for the duration of the contract.
If you didn't take photographs of the meter readings when you took over the place, do it now, and submit them to the supplier. Even if you have functioning smart meters it's a good idea to take pictures.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Your estate or lettings agent should have provided this information together with meter readings on the day you took possession.Make sure your read the meters yourself, don't let anyone do it on your behalf. If renting, beware of a reading that is too low: you may end up paying for use by the previous tenant or during a void period.Don't forget the water meter if there is one.0

Alternatively, if the property has smart meters, the meter itself may also be able to tell you who the current supplier is if you’re able to navigate to the appropriate display.1
