Company Credit check by an individual

Hi

Can I carry out a credit check on a double glazing firm?

I’m thinking about using a local firm in business from 2017 but the most recent financial statements submitted to Companies House were unaudited and only up to end of February 2018.

Experian and Creditsafe only seem to facilitate a credit check on a company by another company.

I don`t think you can, its an unusual thing to suggest to be honest, if you have any doubts, then go elsewhere with your business.

A lot of the information would be taken from companies house, so if they are behind with filing, the credit report would also be out of date.

I'll second the comment from SourCrates - go elsewhere if you have any doubts.
But if you do decide you want to use them, then pay a small deposit by credit card - as long as the total amount is less than £30,000.  That will at least give you S75 protection if the company goes bust before starting the work.
Of course, it's probably not much help if they do the work, then go bust and you need to subsequently make a claim on the warranty - that's where an insurance-backed guarantee comes into its own.

If their accounts are unaudited then they are very small any any "credit reference" is going to be based on a combination of the information you can already see plus not specific to that company type industry averages. You can buy a rating but it'd be very wet finger.

The fact they are very late in filing though would be an immedaite concern... not sure how a company can have not filed anything for the last 5 years
