Soolin isnt the situation partly because your listing states 2 days ?
I put please allow 5 days in my listings .

I then write a note in the listing that most items are posted next day but buyers must allow 5 days to post via royal mail to allow for weekends bank holidays strikes etc .

The 2 day is despatch time, so if I sell today then I would need to post by Thursday night. On top of that you get the delivery estimates. If I increase my despatch time to longer, and ebay consider 3+ days 'excessive' it drops me down in best view and means less sales, but more importantly people still expect it all posted same or next day 'like Amazon'.
Soolin, would this "Best View" apply to personal seller listings or just business sellers? I might consider dropping my listings to 2 working days if it would result in any benefit to me getting all this stuff I don't want shifted out from under my feet!  :)
All sellers business and private. If your placement gets too low then you might not even get seen at all as eBay seem to hide listings . We were for example looking at a specific item, c£70 , found several all roughly the same price. Went in a day later and looked again but found a tab that said ‘show all’ clicked that and more appeared , all from private sellers with longer despatch times . We did end up buying one as the feedback was good and it took a week to arrive which was absolutely fine .

3+ days on eBay for despatch is considered excessive and will severely decrease your visibility.

The issue is twofold though, firstly regardless of your despatch times buyers rarely look at them and just expect their item next day or in 2 days. Secondly, ebay estimates are wildly inaccurate, assuming 2nd class gets there in 24 hours for example.
Thanks. I set all of my current auction dispatch times from 3 days to 2 and while it may be a placebo, there does seem to be a bit more interest since doing so.

Re the immediate shipping, my friend (who uses ebay infrequently, and doesn't sell) just bought a power tool, but the estimated arrival time was the middle of next week.

Following my advice, he POLITELY e-mailed the seller BEFORE he actually bought the item to ASK if they offered a faster delivery option.

The seller responded almost immediately and told him not to worry and that if he bought today it would be in the post tomorrow, but he has set his dispatch times to 7 days because of eBay's "ridiculous delivery date estimates" which had been causing him huge amounts of hassle and stress due to the unrealistic expectations and buyers constantly badgering him. So it's not just us on this board who are feeling it!

While I luckily live within a 10 min walk to the post office, so get most packages out the same, if not the next day, I still set a 2 day dispatch time so that when buyers receive it quickly it's a bonus!

I set a 5 day despatch time and postage is under other courier 3-5 days.
In reality I pretty much always post the next working day.
I'm not a business seller so I'm not bothered about search rankings etc.
The personal possessions I'm selling off are niche and most of my stuff goes to the same few buyers.

Thought I'd re-kindle this thread with this cracker I have just received.

I am selling my sons old cabin bed (basically a single bunk bed with shelves and stuff underneath). Collection only from Newcastle Upon Tyne. This cost us about £500 new and is 4 years old.

I am selling it in pretty good condition for £35 starting price with a buy it now of £60.

    The wooden mattress base is a solid piece 200 x 90 x 2.5cm
The numerous other separate bits (it has been partially disassembled) probably weigh at least 100-120kg all together

    Just recieved the following message.

"Hi. Willing to pay full buy it now price providing you will include shipping for delivery tomorrow to East London area".

Remember, these people walk amongst us!

Shouldn't you now be dismantling  the bed, packing it in shipping crates and hiring a private van to deliver at huge cost- that's obviously what the 'buyer' is expecting.

    Hire a private van??
No no no - the buyer expects a personal delivery, not some measly courier!!!
You need to do the 5 hour drive to drop it off, surely!

    New one today.

Sold some earrings on behalf of a friend.

There is only one kind that matches the auction description. (If you like do an ebay search for  "monet cordelia earrings").

They were apparently very popular many moons ago, come in one size from one maker. I also included EIGHTEEN photos from the front, back, sides, top, some with a tape measure under, over and around, and some without. The sizes, materials, colours, fixings (and even weights) were listed in the auction.

Buyer bought them and today instigated a return 1 day after they were delivered with the explaination "not the ones I want".  :(

Seems like they've given you enough evidence to refuse the refund though?

TBH I probably had returns accepted on this auction as eBay automatically accepted the return. They are sending it back at their own cost too, so I have no huge issue, the main thing I cannot understand though is how on earth could the item have "not been the one they want" when so much information, sizes and detailed high resolution images were all available to them?  :/
