Best providers of Building + Contents cover ?

Hi all,

Will be looking to get B&C cover soon, havnt had to have Buildings Cover for last few years, been in a purpose-built apartment block, so management co provides.

I know i need to get Buildings cover from Exchange. Any recommendations ?  Have read some horror stories about Policy Expert, so necessarily looking for the cheapest, Going to call NFU, who will probably be other end of scale from PE.

TIA

My advice, dont go for the cheapest insurer.

I would recommend the Aviva companies (general accident, aviva online, aviva zero, quotemehappy). Always been good but never had to claim only on the home emergency section which is provided by homeserve and they were always really good and came out the same day!

I would stay away from Churchill, direct line, privilege companies etc not had good service from them when claiming before and I switched mid term to quote me happy then.

AXA seem to be good, family member have been with them for years again only claimed on the home emergency cover section and they came out quickly and was good service.

Whoever you go with, get the legal cover and home emergency add ons. Well worth it!

Also, does anyone know whether the law of England will apply to the transferred pension contracts, please?
Its less about the provider name than than policy type.  Some of well regarded insurers have budget plans as well as comprehensive.

Budget plans will inevitably let you down when you need them the most.

Echo dunstonh's comments that the large companies like Aviva sell the full spectrum of quality of policies and if you buy the bargain basement one your service will match it.

A lot comes down to personal need... NFU dont like London (where I live) and dont like people taking things out their home (which we do with laptops, jewelry, handbags etc). Hiscox is probably the best direct insurer but their minmium insured values/premiums reflect that. Do you need matching set cover? Do you want trace & access? How much do you take out of your home? What sorts of values do your single items go to?

I'm with Aviva (via an affinity partner) but need to recalculate my valuables this year to ensure we are still within their limit.

Thank you all for the feedback, much appreciated.

Have spoken with NFU ( the nearest office to where we are moving ) but i need to find out the Rebuilding Cost to progress the quote further.

You'll need that directly or indirectly with all insurers as either you buy a sums insured policy where you must declare its value or your buy a "bedroom rated" which will have a fixed sum insured... they are often fairly high numbers like £500,000 or £1,000,000 but you still need your rebuild number to ensure you are within what they offer.
