Hi,
I am running Linux Mint on an iMac that is over 10yrs old, that we use to watch Netflix and Prime in our bedroom. I now want to play music MP3s on it but to be able to turn off the screen, so we can fall asleep listening to music.
I have used several methods to turn off the screen - using an applet called "turn off monitor", ctrl-alt-L (which makes the screen less bright and requests a password) and in the terminal typing "xsert dpms force off ".
However, the screen keeps coming back on after less than a minute.
Initially I was using a Mac magic mouse pad and a Mac bluetooth keyboard. So I changed to a wired USB mouse and a wired USB keyboard and turned off bluetooth but the problem persisted.
I have run update which tells me I am now up to date.
I am not very Linux savy. I have tried Googling but cannot find the answer. Any help gratefully received. Thank you.

Thank you for that. Unfortunately that's the applet I tried - it does turn the screen off but for some reason it turns itself back on again in a minute or two.
