I have been in my property 20 years on there is a old landline cable clipped to the wall it is not used, (never by me) and the old internal box had been removed and wires plastered over..I am having my outside walls clad and rendered so I have been removing all unnecessary fixtures etc .I have un-clipped the cable and coiled and secured it to the cleat on the fascia but need it removed. I am struggling to contact open reach but I have been told it is chargeable at about £155 is this correct..or is there another way as it is their cable on my house something I don't need and certainty don't want on my new walls
Many  thanks

The line up to the master socket in the property (or where it used to be according to your post) is Openreach property.  Please do not tamper with it.

Also Openreach don't deal with the general public (unless its a heath and safety thing),  they only only respond to the ISP, assuming that phone line is used by your current internet provider for internet?  If it isn't how are you online at the moment?

You may find Openreach will be reluctant to remove it - it won't be a high priority job for a start and there will be a requirement for a USO for telephony, regardless of whether you've used it or not - somebody else after you move on may want it.

So far as your external walls go, you'll probably just have to clad and render round it.

If you don’t intend to ever use this Openreach connection you probably shouldn’t touch it , but you do see ‘wires’ that have obvious been cut down from the house end , pulled back to the telegraph pole that served the property and the wire cut as high up as possible , or  the now ‘dangling’ wire wrapped around the pole ( rather than properly recovered by Openreach ).

A reason not to do this is if you ever do consider OR based service, or you move out and the new occupant wants to use OR , then the address will be recorded as ‘connected’ but obviously won’t be , but TBH , with FTTP becoming more widespread, the copper connection may never be reused anyway and would be replaced with a fibre dropwire, should FTTP become available and an order for service raised .
Obviously if someone cut down an Openreach wire , and left it in a dangerous state , dangling in the wind , so to speak, and someone was injured as a consequence , there could be serious repercussions if the person who cut it down could be identified and prosecuted.

Wires run from pole to the house, I have only removed the wires from the wall and coiled it to the fixing cleat on the fascia. I don't use BT  as on VM...BT are going to be installing fibre in our road soon .I might cut the wires off and if anyone asks  blame the builders lol. I don't intend to move except in my wooden box..

The pole for our cul de sac is just outside our house, a couple of neighbours’ wires had been neatly rolled up and gaffer taped to the pole and the last time BT came out to work on someone’s line they tidied these away. There’s currently another roll that BT themselves have gaffer taped to the pole, I assume they’re expecting to use this at some point.

It might be easiest if the previous owner cut the wire down before you moved in :)
