Can anyone help me with grants please

I am really struggling right now, I don't have any money for food, my second hand fridge has broken down and no, there isn't any family I can turn to to ask for money. I've tried looking, but it seems they want referrals from your doctor etc. I don't have any money for a fridge and so can't keep any food for long like I was able to. I have £2 in my bank right now and don't get any money for a week. Does anybody know of any grants to help individuals on benefits please?

If you're on UC can you apply for a budgeting advance to get a fridge?. It's the £348 one. I got one a couple of years ago to replace my oven. Although if you're paying one off, you can't get another.

I also think you can get vouchers for food banks from the jobcentre or citizens advice. I'm not 100% on that hopefully someone more knowledgeable will confirm.

The only other thing I can think of is salvation army, some have white goods and furniture (not the shops, they'd be too expensive), have one in my town and also another charity that have second hand items for people in need. Can't help on the grant side, I've never found any and definitely not any that pay out quickly.

I can't help really except suggesting your local Freecycle web site?

Ask your local food bank.  Many of them do more than just hand out food but may also have a community hub that helps with appliances, money advice, clothing etc.

Also - there may be industry charities that might help you.  So SAAFA if you or immediate family are ex/armed forces, BWC if anyone has worked for a bank or large financial organisation, maybe a union?  Likewise health charities can be a good source of support - there's seems to be one for every type of physical and mental condition so that might be a possibility.

Also check out the community meals or community fridges.  A local church has a free lunch every week.  There's OLIO and similar that share out food that would otherwise be binned by shops, restaurants and individuals.

Are you renting from a Housing Association?
If so then ring them and ask for help from their welfare fund.
(My housing Assiciation bought me a brand new cooker from their welfare fund).

Olio is an excellent shout, food can only ever be free on that.  You could post a 'wanted' for a fridge too.

Look on your local council's website for emergency or crisis grants. My local council has a crisis grant that can be applied for online. Our local Citizens Advice also help people apply for this if they can't use a computer.
The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.

Look around social media.... for local food banks or community larders... those type of places where often they'll also be able to advise on other local help. Social media marketplaces, freecycle... for potentially white goods. Social media - just ask... I've seen people post similarly to you here and have a lot of help come their way... you may be able to post anonymously too and ask for messages. Amazing how much help can be gotten and quickly. Might be better than grants which could take time and repayment. Cheap options for food and drink - advice all over. Many people are struggling. Good luck.
