Virgin Digital Telephone - Box upstairs - phone down

Hi can anyone please give me some advice on the virgin telephone switch over.
She currently has a phone line downstairs ( which is now not working ) and a broadband box upstairs - since a fall she cant get up the stairs and I do not want run wires around the house in case she trips over them .
Spoke to the help from Virgin who said that there only current option is to provide a longer lead and run it through the house , or possibly having the box moved downstairs but due to where her plug sockets are located would mean running wires across the floor.
She has a mobile phone which she uses most of the time but a few other friends prefer to use their land line a , she also missed a couple of doctors call backs due to the disruption as they have the landline number ( she cant get through to them to change it).
Is there anyway to get around the issue without drilling and trailing wires everywhere.
thanks
