Home insurance and house purchase/move question

Hello everyone.
I have a question about home insurance.
Currently have contents insurance only as I'm renting. I plan to buy my own place soon so will need building insurance as well.
My contents insurance runs out in October. For various reasons, it will take me a few days or longer to move all my stuff. Obviously, I'll get building insurance to start on exchange but should I get new content insurance for the new address at the same time (and then cancel the current policy once I move out of the old house) or transfer existing insurance? Like I said, I won't be moving in straight away and the actual move will probably take couple of days at least so I'd prefer to be covered at both addresses until the move is completed.
Is it generally cheaper/more practical to get both types of insurance together or is it better to get it separately? I always rented so no idea how to go about it? Thank you!

Probably best to ask your current insurance company in the first instance0

They will not cover 2 addresses under the same policy, already checked.0

Its generally cheaper to buy joint building/contents insurance but it also avoids any finger pointing between the two insurers as to if something should be contents or buildings plus only 1 insurer to deal with if you say had a fire that damaged both contents and building.0
