Hi all, would a credit card company send a text to your mobile phone about a declined payment? I received one today and on looking up the caller id on internet, 50% said it was a scam and the other 50 said it was genuine. The thing is - there was a fraudulent transaction on my credit card account for the specified amount and retailer mentioned in the text message and quite rightly it should be declined.
It will be a very elaborate fraudster who managed to obtain my credit card number and associated mobile phone number. For most of my online shopping I actually use a different mobile phone number.
I am wondering if the text message was genuine after all?!! Only thing is, I did receive a few scam calls after that message - that makes it even more confusing!!!
What do you guys think, have some of you received a similar text and can say it is indeed a genuine method employed by the banks to combat fraud?

Yes they would send the text. So you will contact them.
No doubt it was the bank ringing you afterwards.
But if you are unsure. Use the number on the back of the card to ring them. Even if the transaction is declined, your card needs stopping & replacing. So the fraudsters can not try to use it again.Life in the slow lane0 -
You don’t mention which CC company you are referring to.
I’ve had, on occasion, a text asking me to confirm a transaction.Save £12k in 2023 challenge
