The last reply was only in June, so not that old.

There should be no reason that Barclays shouldn't accept an out of date passport or driver's licence assuming the latter has the photo card.  Other things to check are bus passes and voter ID cards.  If distance is an issue would a video appointment be possible?  (basically a skype or zoom meeting)
Sorry but this is incorrect. If you can't use the passport to travel you can't use it for ID.

Interesting observation, and I believe it depend on the actual picture being representative of the current likeness of the person, but do you know that if you have been abroad and your passport has expired you can indeed travel back into your country of origin as far as you have another form of identification recognised in the country of departure (but could be one not valid as a travel document)? On arrival back into the UK you would only present your expired passport and will be allowed in? So not necessarily true to your statement

Scroll down on How to prove and verify someone's identity - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and you wil find a statement that "An expired UK passport cannot be used for travel but may be used to prove someone's identity".  Of course, a bank can make up its own rules that doesn't allow expired passports to be used.

All banks have this rule unless of course you can point me towards one?

Not sure what you are asking.
I was pointing out that the official UK government website says it is possible to use expired UK passports as ID.
I was also aware that banks seem to want to make up their own rules and insist that passports used for ID are also valid for travel.
Presumably you were challenging me to point to one that doesn't rather than one that does.  I can't because I myself have always been able to provide suitable ID.
