Hello Abbafan1972
The issue is sorted. Here is the solution we used
Dad applied for a new driving licence which arrived with his "new" wobbly signature about 10 days later.
I helped him apply for a Barclays current account online using his new driving licence as ID and that gave him almost immediate internet access to his Everyday Saver account.
We transferred all the money from the Everyday saver account to his Barclays current account.
We opened a Nationwide Flex account online and then switched his Barclays current account to Nationwide.
We opened several savings accounts with Nationwide online and transfered the bulk of the money from his Flex accoun to them.
There was no switching bonus available at the time but the Nationwide branch is nearer to him (a short bus ride with the bus stop right outside the Nationwide) and that is more important for him.
Still awaiting the amended LPA's but once they arrive, he can take them into the branch as I've already done my identification prelimaries with Nationwide.
In the end, I had to travel to him to help with the online applications but it was worth it to get rid of the stress (his and mine).

Sorry but this is incorrect. If you can't use the passport to travel you can't use it for ID.Brie said:There should be no reason that Barclays shouldn't accept an out of date passport or driver's licence assuming the latter has the photo card. Other things to check are bus passes and voter ID cards. If distance is an issue would a video appointment be possible? (basically a skype or zoom meeting)0 -
Interesting observation, and I believe it depend on the actual picture being representative of the current likeness of the person, but do you know that if you have been abroad and your passport has expired you can indeed travel back into your country of origin as far as you have another form of identification recognised in the country of departure (but could be one not valid as a travel document)? On arrival back into the UK you would only present your expired passport and will be allowed in? So not necessarily true to your statementretiredbanker1 said:

Scroll down on How to prove and verify someone's identity - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk) and you wil find a statement that "An expired UK passport cannot be used for travel but may be used to prove someone's identity". Of course, a bank can make up its own rules that doesn't allow expired passports to be used.retiredbanker1 said:

All banks have this rule unless of course you can point me towards one?General_Grant said:

Not sure what you are asking.retiredbanker1 said:

I was pointing out that the official UK government website says it is possible to use expired UK passports as ID.
I was also aware that banks seem to want to make up their own rules and insist that passports used for ID are also valid for travel.
Presumably you were challenging me to point to one that doesn't rather than one that does. I can't because I myself have always been able to provide suitable ID.1
