Looking for GHG emissions reducing pension & ISA funds

I recently discovered that the so called ‘ethical’ funds from my pension & ISA providers basically just don’t invest in military and fossil fuels, but still invest in some of our biggest greenhouse gas emission polluters. Has anyone been successful finding pensions and ISA funds from providers investing in organisations that are actively protecting the planet from climate change ?

Ethics vary with people and you generally need a whole of market platform if you have specific ethical decisions you want to make with your portfolio.  And ethical funds are different to ESG funds.

Every single whole of market platform.

Triodos are a well established ethical bank, offering an Ethical  S&S ISA .

By the way there is to be more regulation soon, to make it harder for investment funds to claim to be ethical or green.

It's complex. Fidelity have an ESG finder tool which rather than making the choice for you, lets you select which things you are looking for and it'll filter funds accordingly.

Yep, that's pretty much what it says on the tin for "ethical funds". Most of them aim to give investors broad exposure to the market they cover while filtering out the most obviously icky companies.

If you are looking for funds which only invest in companies which have something to do with reducing emissions, you would be looking for funds called something like "Bloggs IM Clean Energy", with a specific objective to invest in that sector. There are plenty of them about. But they are high risk and have a material chance of losing you money, same as any single-sector fund, like a fund which only invested in IT companies or banks.

It will certainly be welcome to see more regulation in the confusion of different flavours of ‘green’ funds. Investment in companies that are actively reducing emissions below 1990 levels is such a powerful tool
in tackling the climate crisis. It needs to be MUCH easier for everyday consumers , not just specialists, to choose to stop funding companies that are still creating and growing greenhouse gas emissions too. Not sure what use the money they make will be on a toasting planet in coming decades.
