Did the previous tenants provide an accurate closing reading when they left?

The moment you took possession of the property you became an OVO customer.
If your tenancy commenced on the 28th of March, your relationship with OVO also started then.
If it's a smart meter then OVO should be able to pull a meter reading for that day. This might even be what they have done.

If they did then something used up over 300kwh in 2 days in my empty flat. I have a previous tenant bill which was addressed to the occupier of my flat (now me) I will check the dates that they billed it from an to. I'm sure I remember it being up to a couple of days before I moved in. I wouldn't touch OVO with a barge pole hence why I was hasty to switch

nope they didn't pay a lot of bills by the amount of debt letters arriving at my flat so a reading on leaving would have been a no from them. This all spanned from debt letter addressed to current occupier. This is how I found out the reading error.

Have you confirmed the meter you are reading and the meter the supplier is reading are the same and the one actually connected to your flat ?

So, because you "don't agree with opening an account with OVO", you might be left paying for an unknown amount of the previous occupiers' usage.

This is why there is a process.  The problem you have is that nobody knows what your meter reading was on 28th.  All anyone knows for sure is the 7515 reading on the change from 'the occupier @ OVO' to 'LeeB @ Shell', and whatever the last actual read was from the previous occupiers (which could have been months or years ago).

That's my point, it's not being fair ha ha, I submitted readings 7 days apart to show my weekly usage and at the rate I'm using my kwh it would take me 2 months to use over 300kwh. I just wish they would see sense but that ain't going to happen , same with me paying what they are making me pay he he. It's crazy as OVO sent several bills all with different amounts but for the same period of Feb to march 28th

You could try registering with http://www.n3rgy.com/ and downloading your own smart meter data. From this you'll be able to calculate what the likely reading was when you took possession.
(This calculation will not be definitive bit will give you something to argue over with OVO.)

  • This matter is best addressed with Shell not Ovo. As I said before, the gaining supplier’s data collector produces the industry agreed switch reading which both suppliers are required to use to open and close the accounts. Raise a Greed Readings Dispute and request that Shell look back to the date of the transfer for an actual smart meter reading. Shell should then revise the switch reading if it is found to be outwith the industry switch limits. If N3rgy.com can access smart meter data then so can Shell.

    Nice one !
But an Agreed Readings Dispute might be better...
