Universal Credit and pension contributions

Yes I know you weren’t. It’s a subject that annoys me, it was a frustrating few months, new job didn’t set up auto enrolment for new employees for couple of months, so net pay was higher resulting in lower UC, so pay in to private pension separately and UC refuse to accept it. Luckily work was sorted so didn’t pursue going higher with the complaint. Probably more annoyed at myself for just letting it go. As you say others have pursued, some for months, so would recommend that the OP gets their employer to pay in to pension as it is a lot easier that way.Spoonie_Turtle said:
Btw I was not at all saying you are incorrect, but that the UC workers saying pension contributions can't be deducted are incorrect. Apologies if that wasn't clear. Sincerely doubt you'd be lying about your interactions with them! UC has form for the workers being plain wrong.0 -
Yes definitely simpler if they can get it done that way, and a lot less stressful.Numberwang_2 said:

[And I'm sorry you lost out due to their incompetence, it's not good enough. Not everyone knows where to find out what the actual rules are or is able to fight for it to be administered correctly, and nobody should have to anyway.]1 -
Right, I'll go that route instead then, thanks. I was getting myself mixed up between salary sacrifice and employee contributions handled by employer.Spoonie_Turtle said:

Numberwang, you should definitely fight it with UC, it seems like their decision makers are either incompetent or deliberately ripping people off. Wonder if they're on commission? "Every £1 you save the DWP, we'll give you 5p bonus".0
