Car Insurance After Crash

On 2nd February, this year, I had a crash in my work van. The van is a write off. The other driver pulled out in front of me and has accepted full responsability.
My personal car insurance is due in 6 weeks. I have no claim protection on my car insurance.
Do I need to inform the insurance company of my crash in my work van?
My work van is a NHS leased vehicle, so I am listed as a driver, but not as owner or leaser.
The police did attend and take name and licence details.

Read your policy docs. Some insurers want to know about accidents etc. immediately, others just at renewal.

You'll certainly need to declare it when you shop around for quotes.

Did you own & insure your work van?

When I renew, I look on Compare The Market, for any cheaper and better quality cover.
I think it asks for any claim over the last 5 years.
Hoping it will not mean an increase to my insurance cost.

No, I do not own the van. It is leased by the NHS. The NHS arranges the insurance for the van.
I do have a personal injury from the crash, which I might get a small compensation payment. So my name will be linked to the crash through that, maybe.

One of the questions asked on your insurance is have you had any accidents. Just because it was in the works vehicle it is still YES.
With respect to the OP when I ran my car hire operation I had many people who said they had never had an accident in all their years of driving - when asked how long they would like to hire the car for so many said *until your bodyshop repairs mine* The fact that someone else had hit them they never considered they had had an accident - always someome else was at fault.

Thanks, when I renew, I will say yes, and tell about this crash.

Probably won’t have that much effect premium. I’ve had two not at fault writeoffs in the last two years and insurance hasn’t noticeably increased.
