Excess mileage

Hi all
I have recently returned the Volvo that I had under a lease. It's been over a month, and I, unfortunately, forgot to cancel my dd, which meant that they took a payment that they shouldn't when I rang them, they informed me I was over my excess mileage and that they would keep the extra payment I disputed this and that have said that will return the payment. Still, they now say I have to pay the excess but it has been over a month how long does that get to send a bill?

Technically, up to six years.  I'm afraid you owe the money, and a month or more is not an unreasonable delay, particularly when you factor in the direct debit situation.

    How much is the charge?

There's no way they're going to waive that, and a short delay in billing you isn't grounds for non-payment.  Presumably they were intending to put the (few hundred?) direct debit towards that debt, which doesn't seem unfair, but now it's been reversed you'll have to pay the full amount by other means.

How many miles is that over?
As it is clear what the annual mileage is, when taking out the lease.

Many of returns are checked by a 3rd party before going to auction. So can take a while to filter through.

But it shouldn't be a surprise.
You know the pence per mile for excess mileage.
You know the total lease mileage agreed.
You know the total mileage covered.

Its a common mistake with lease cars.

People get them with 8k miles p/a for a cheaper price per month and don't realise its not near enough.

Handing them back can be very sore as OP has just found out.

Another money maker for them is chips and dings, it can be costly handing a lease car back

Seems Volvo charge 20P excess per mile
Which would be 17.5 K miles, something pretty hard not to realise.
Think it is BCA that handle the returns & billing for damage & excess mileage.

Have they read the odometer correctly
I had instances where they got one digit wrong ie 7 for a 1

Basics: what is the excess rate per mile, and how many miles are you in excess of the contracted distance?
I don't understand what you are disputing, if the calculation above is correct? A month is not a unreasonable period to take to calculate the final bill.
