Hi, I have a couple of queries I was hoping people could answer for me please
1 - most of my transactions are under £20 and I have been buying the postage 2nd class standard from ebay. One item hasn't been delivered. Do I still need a proof of postage please from the post office? I didn't think I did as it gives you a tracking number from their system. Ebay told me that I will have to put in a claim with royal mail (meaning I won't get my final value fees repaid). Is this right?

2 - if I have lots of low value transactions, under £15, in order to be covered by ebay if the item doesn't get delivered (get final value fees repaid too) do they class 2nd class signed for service as a trackable service please?

3 - if I use second class standard delivery, if the item goes missing and I have to put in a claim with royal mail, can I claim by final value ebay fees back from them please?

An INR and a Royal Mail claim are entirely different matters and you should separate them in your mind.

1). If an item has no delivery confirmation then you cannot win an INR on eBay, regardless of how you sent. So even if you paid for fully tracked signature required , photo taken at the door, if it doesn’t show as delivered then you need to refund the buyer and claim from the courier. Always refund the buyer before it is escalated and eBay refund for you, if you refund before escalation you get your FVFs back and no seller warning. If you don’t refund and it goes to eBay then you lose your FVFs and get a seller warning and still lose the money. At some point after all that you would be eligible to make a claim from your courier, but would need POP.

2). Exactly as above, no proof of delivery = not being able to win an INR. You then rely on your POP to reclaim , and with POP an RM claim is very quick and easy now and all done online.

    3) no, as above eBay and RM are completely separate.  EBay will give you back your FVFs and RM cover the item cost and postage (assuming item eligible and correct postage used).

For standard parcels up to £20 there is delivery confirmation included with that and £20 compensation from RM. LLs have no guaranteed delivery confirmation, but I’ve noticed when I buy on eBay about 2/3rds do confirm delivery. I use these services for all low cost items and after attaching labels take them to the mail centre or PO a to get POP. A standard 2nd class small parcel is £2.99.

for parcels over £20 (I sometimes risk higher ) then RM 48 is an excellent service , I think it’s currently £3.49 for a small parcel, and that has £100 comp. For expensive LL s I check the price of both signed for and RM48 parcel to see which is cheaper for the weight.

I keep my postage costs as low as possible as any un necessary upgrades cost me money as people won’t pay as much for the item.

You will always need some sort of POP though to claim from RM , but as above as long as you refund buyer yourself within the case time frame you don’t lose your FVFs, only the 30p transaction fee that eBay retain.

if you have allowed eBay to close an INR case against you then a seller warning can be very dangerous for a small seller, and you need to keep an eye on your seller dashboard and seller level.
