Tax code 1257L changed to BR

Hi,
In my previous job I was on tax code 1257L, I left at the end of December 2022 and was paid for some unused holidays. I then received no salary in January, February. I started a new job at the beginning of March. I received my first pay at the end of March with the same 1257L tax code which included a £2000 signing on bonus. Since then my last two paychecks have been on code BR which is taxing me like I have no tax free allowance this year and reducing my monthly income by around 12% of the expect amount. Is this likely to be a temporary change or I will I continue to not have the standard £12k tax free allowance? My company pays an annual bonus in April every year which I would receive next year, can I expect this to continue indefinitely?

You need to contact HMRC to get it sorted. Do you have access to your on line tax account ? If so what does that show for you employments, they likely have you down as both jobs.

Has your previous employer notified HMRC that you ceased in employment with them?
Not being paid doesn't necessarily mean this has happened0 -
I'll definitely give them all call, my online portal only shows the one employer. Interesting my previous employer never send me a p60, for the new job I had to go online and get my tax summary/code to provide to my new employer myself. Thanks.
I think you could be right my previous employer didn't do what they were supposed to.0 -

I had the same trouble, but in my case they added both salaries together ( new and old job) and of course I paid a lot of extra tax at 40% until it was sorted out .0 -
You wouldn't get a P60 from your previous employer as you weren't under their employment on the 5th April, you should have had a P45 but it sounds like they havent marked you as a leaver with them & notified HMRC. Contact your former employer & ask for a P45, when they send it check to ensure the leave date is correct.0

Sounds like your old employer hasn't let HMRC know that you've left0
