MalMonroe - Deannagone didn't say how old her son is, so it may not be appropriate to send him off to clear the blockage. I have mental images of a small child up to his neck all in all sorts of mess and muck.

If you’ve barely used that bathroom how do you know there wasn’t already a blockage there? Like others, sort it yourself either through a chemical unblocker or a long 3m metal cable that you can wind down the pipe.

    In short, NO!

    On a side note:

This happens occasionally with us, when my son is a bit enthusiastic with the toilet paper.  I absolutely hate the job but put on gloves, use a reshaped wire coat hanger to fish out whatever's in the ubend, place it in a sealed plastic bag throw that out and flush.  Takes 2 mins even if my mind is revolted by the job lolol.

I must have a ubend that can't clear itself very well,  A complete pain but relatively easy to sort.
I'd not be able to do that.

What I would be able to do is talk to my son about his use of toilet paper and if that didn't work and he blocked the loo then it would be him heading to the smallest room with rubber gloves, coat hanger, plastic bag and fishing round the bend. He'd soon stop the overuse of paper - which is bad for the environment anyway - and would hopefully make more of an effort in future. Relatively easy to sort out for him, it's his mess. I wouldn't be able to do it.

I remember the toilet getting blocked when my ex had 6 of her uni friends round for the weekend. By blocked I mean, 6+1 females drinking all weekend blocked. After some emotional blackmail I ended up getting a double layered black bag and a bundled up tea towel. Mid plunge my finger went through the bag....

My ex refused to tell her friends anything as she "didn't want to embarrass them". 18+ years later, I still have PTSD.
Nothing is foolproof to a talented fool.

Have to admit, I'm slightly concerned at how many people reach for the chemical solution before something mechanical and clean.
