I decided to spend last weekend getting drunk and deafened at the Isle of Wight Music Festival. Yep, I know, takes all sorts etc... Anyway. On Monday morning, I got a phonecall from work asking if I could urgently come in for 1900 due to staff sickness. My ferry was at 1930 from Cowes, so I said "I doubt it, but I will try to get on an earlier ferry." Bear in mind that this was the day that about 35,000 people were attempting to get back home from the Isle of Wight. I arrived at the terminal, explained my problem and asked if I could get on an earlier ferry (expecting maybe a 1600 sailing, or a fee of some kind.) Not at all. The bloke in charge loaded me straight onto the ferry that was ready to depart, and an hour later (1230) I was on the M3 heading home! Excellent service. Well recommended!
