WFH Tax Relief

I started WFH permanently in July 2019 when my employer's office location closed down and I had no other option (so pre-dates and unrelated to covid restrictions etc)

I remember claiming the tax relief in 2020 (around April/May time) and just found a payment on my bank statement from HMRC for £39.80 on 10/7/2020.

However, the thought just occurred to me that I haven't made any further claims since - should I be able to or might this relief have been built into my tax code or something?

I'm guessing that the payment I did receive relates to 2019-2020 tax year but I'm not entirely sure and don't know how to easily check.

If I can claim, would it just be a case of doing an online claim for the 20-21, 21-22 and 22-23 tax years?  Then do 23-24 next year?

I'm full time permanent and don't complete a tax return.

Thanks All :-)

I think I might have found the answer to my question - I couldn't initially find it in my online tax account but now have found where it says flat rate job expenses of £60, so seems it is already included.

    Thanks anyway!

That is not a WFH allowance - more akin to uniform, tools or suchlike! What is your job?

And 1252L is LESS than the standard code number - can you provide a breakdown?

    I work in IT.
I read that the relief amounted to £1.20 per week, which comes to "about" £60 for the year.  Can't think of anything else it might relate to - no uniforms etc!
I do have savings interest over the PSA so there is also an adjustment for that.....

    Personal Allowance
    The amount is£12,570

    Additions

    Flat rate job expenses £60
    Total additions             £60

    Deductions

Untaxed interest on savings and investments  £108
    Total deductions                                               £108

    Your total tax-free amount
    The amount is£12,522

    You are getting very confused.

You don't claim the tax relief.  You claim the expenses.  Which could result in you benefitting from some tax relief.  The amount of the tax relief will vary from person to person.

But for a full tax year the standard WFH claim could result in anything from £0 to, in extreme circumstances, nearly £200 but will typically be £62 or £124.

If you are referring to the £6/week WFH expenses and have no valid claim for £60 flat rate expenses then you simply need to let HMRC know that and they will recalculate your tax accordingly, removing the £60 and replacing with expenses of £312.

I'm assuming you have checked the validity of a claim for WFH expenses for your particular situation.

I was indeed getting myself confused!

I tried calling HMRC but couldn't get through, but then I found I could claim the WFH relief online.

To be fair, my tax code got updated the next day and now I have the £312 showing (as "Other expenses   £312").

I did also tick the boxes to claim for the last couple of years - no mention of that as yet, so whether I'll get a refund remains to be seen - Update, cheque in post for £114 so nice little result!

Now the £312 is on my record will I need to claim it every year I continue to be WFH, or should it stay there now?

    Thanks for the help!
