Samsung tablet - can't switch off / restart - PROBLEM SOLVED

Asking on behalf of my friends...
Their S8 started behaving erratically. It's showing charging, but the % doesn't go up; physical keyboard isn't working.
And I can't switch it off or restart - long-pressing power button results in either "Allow Samsung record audio?" pop-up or "Discover" pop-up with some nonsense like 'take selfie' etc. - I think it's Bixby(?).
Any ideas/advice?
EDIT: I managed to restart if by holding both 'side buttom' and 'volume down' buttons for 7 seconds - as per the manual. Physical keboard works now. Charging seems to work too.
