Fitted egyptian cotton sheets

Admittedly I have had my sheets for some years but I have to use brut force to get these over the mattress at the corners. Do they shrink over time? I plan on buying some new and wonder which is the best to buy? The ones I have are John Lewis so should be good.

They do, but stay with JL or WhiteCompany and don't go to BelleDorm who give you sheets 3 inches too big in the expectation that they shrink because it doesn't happen ( and they don't wear well).1

Have you checked you have the right depth of sheet? Many companies sell different depths so you don't have to fight with your mattress to get it fitted. I'd almost bet the depth of your mattress is bigger than the depth of your sheet0

My thoughts exactly. I don’t buy particularly expensive bedding but do find it’s worth paying a few £ extra for the deeper fitted sheets. Less of a battle to fit & they don’t ‘ride up’ like shallower ones. Haven’t noticed any shrinkage issues.GrubbyGirl_2 said:Have you checked you have the right depth of sheet? Yes I have the deepest sheets, the problem seems to be length from head to toe is too tight, not the depth.GrubbyGirl_2 said:Have you checked you have the right depth of sheet? Cotton does shrink in the wash but the vast majority of the shrinkage happens in the first couple of washes and after that it should be stable. Mattresses do also change shape overtime as they get more squashed with people laying on them making them slightly bigger but flatter than their original perky selves.givememoney said:Admittedly I have had my sheets for some years but I have to use brut force to get these over the mattress at the corners. I'd avoid the premium for the word "Egyptian" on the packaging as it means nothing... it in theory is about a certain type of plant being grown in certain areas of Egypt but in legal terms can be any cotton from anywhere within Egypt. Some have even attempted to argue that plant being grown elsewhere in the world can be called "Egyptian". There is an interesting NY Times on the matter and the tests they did showed 89% of Egyptian cotton being sold by major stores there was not the traditional Egyptian cotton thats worth paying the premium for and most agree that if you expanded the tests to other sellers the percentage of fakes would be much higher.0 -
Also beware of sheets described as 'hotel' or 'Dorma' sheets at markets, etc. It's rather meaningless, although I did get some bargain sheets intended for the laundry rental market.0

I have been told that you should fit the sheet with the lable, on the bottom left side. As this stops it shinking or been pulled out of shape. Works for me.0

Is that the left side as you look at the bed or the left side when you're lying in it?elle_may said:I have been told that you should fit the sheet with the lable, on the bottom left side. As this stops it shinking or been pulled out of shape. Works for me.0 -

I don't think that's how physics works, but if it's good for you, why not?elle_may said:I have been told that you should fit the sheet with the lable, on the bottom left side. As this stops it shinking or been pulled out of shape. Works for me.1
