Airline refund to Barclaycard with zero balance on the card

Dear All,
Unfortunately we have had to cancel our flights but the good news is that we are entitled to a full refund which the airline has agreed to do. The airline has agreed to refund the full amount, which is considerable as the amount is in the £1000s to the credit card I used to purchase the original tickets with (Barclaycard). However at the moment I have zero balance on this card so not sure what will happen; will I simply have a credit put on my credit card, e.g. if the refund is £4000 will my Barclaycard show a credit of £4000? If so, can I transfer that amount out to a saving account where I might be able to get some decent interest?
Thanks for your help in advance

We had that experience although only a few hundred pounds so managed to clear it by using the card for petrol and a few other items. Don’t know how else that credit could be cleared.
Not sure that the airline can do anything else? Have you spoken to them?1 -
A refund will put your account into credit.
In general you can then either use the card to spend it (my approach when I had a four figure refund), or ask for it to be refunded to another account.1 -
This is a not uncommon situation, and is nothing to worry about. Your CC will be in credit, and you can either spend on the card to use it up (easy enough if your normal spending patterns would use it up in a month or two), or else give the card company a call and ask them to refund the money to you.

What ever you do, do not try to transfer credit to your bank acc online, as you will be charged for that.Life in the slow lane1 -
Agree but would add ensure that they agree what they are doing with the transfer. I had similar with Santander and the lovely individual I was talking to made sure I realised it was treated as if it was a balance transfer and would incur a fee as such but because of the situation the fee would be immediately refunded - which it was.born_again said:

Called Barclaycard, very simple process, they will transfer the credit to by current account within one working day, doesn't seem to be any charge.1

That's good to hear. Yes, it should be a simple process, and there should never be a charge for doing so (it's a completely different thing to withdrawing cash from an ATM). It often used to be the case that they would automatically give you a refund anyway, whether you asked for it or not, but I guess each lender will have their own policies and procedures. But yes, they are obliged to give you a refund if you request it.MisnerSpace said:Called Barclaycard, very simple process, they will transfer the credit to by current account within one working day, doesn't seem to be any charge.
