Buying a house and have agreed an entry date of 4th of jan, seller has now contacted my solicitor asking to change date of entry to the 11th as they are having problems with the house they are buying. I told my solicitor that this could not be done but tonight the seller contacted me directly and gave a whole sob story and now I'm not sure what to do.
What do you guys think???

What's the sob story?
What's your situation?
You could still exchange on the same date, just change completion, so you know it's yours. Although I suspect they want to move that date too...
Tricky really. If I were them I'd be looking to move out into temporary accommodation because I had a buyer (and they're like rocking horse poo)0 -
She cant move into her new house cos the seller has had problems with the completion paperwork and as her hubby works away she has been left to deal with it all.
Our situation is that we are renting at present, the lease isn't up until Feb but have arranged for EVERYTHING to happen on the fourth. Lots of stuff getting delivered and we are already cramped in here because we have already had a lot of stuff delivered.Don't ask me, Im SKINT0 -
Well, as much as it pains me to say it, I think you might have to just put up with it on this occasion.
My reasoning for this is:
1] By using the line "hubby ... away ... left ... deal" my heart sank; there are many women who can't do a thing by themselves. So holding them to it and insisting on the date, expecting her to find a short-term rental is probably too much for her tiny fluffy head.
2] Right ... you've ordered stuff to be delivered. Bit daft. Bit optimistic. Bit reckless. BUT. It IS possible for you to change that delivery date and/or get it delivered to a self-storage unit. Where you could also bung some of your other accumulated stuff in the short term.
You won't be homeless for the week, or even tight. The only issue from your side really is space. So rent some.
From her side you'd have an unpredictable, disorganised faffer not managing to sort anything out or make decisions.
So I'd say: live with it, just to give yourself an easier life at the end of the day.0
