Issue with opening a savings account at a well known building society using bank transfer

OK I misread your email. I did get these instructions but when I entered all the info asked for, FD warned me not to proceed and said it didn't recognise the bank name and the sort code.wmb194 said:
You mean with Leeds? Leeds doesn't offer current accounts. It states in the screenshot, "...into my savings account."katejo said:
That sounds as though it is meant for customers who already have a current account with them. I didn't get this screen. I got one which said I could either make a payment with a debit card or arrange a transfer from my own bank.wmb194 said:
Looks like this isn't the route to take with Leeds as its website says it now uses Confirmation of Payee (COP), so you enter your name and account number the same as you would with e.g., the big banks.katejo said:
COP? I was in my own bank account and had selected the 'paying a business' option, provided a reference number, had selected the BS name and entered their sort code but it wasn't recognised.wmb194 said:If you're talking about sending the money to an account with a reference number via a clearing bank, usually you can do this via COP but rather than your own name you enter the building society's name and tick the, 'paying a business' box.
According to the PayUK sort code checker Leeds has its own so it is strange that FD would struggle with it but all the banks these days are desperate to avoid paying out for misdirected or scam transfers to it's probably safest for them to play dumb. Or FD/HSBC's simply dumb.

See my edited comment above; my test* worked fine for me but you need to send it as a, 'new person or small business in the UK,' enter your own name and set the payee account type to, 'Personal.'katejo said:

OK but that's what I thought I had done. If that is correct, why did FD say that they would have the same problem as I did when I rang to query it?wmb194 said:

Probably because you were using the 'pay a (large?) business' option and not the 'personal and small business' and enter your own name?katejo said:

No I am sure I did the personal and small business. I looked at bothwmb194 said:

The account details of your new account are likely to have not been passed to the building society's payment service provider yet, which is why FD is returning the details can't be validated. New accounts at building societies, which typically will require another institution to process and clear payments, are likely to be passed in batches and probably only on working days.1

Then I'm not sure how you, "selected the BS name" as this shouldn't have been an option: with Leeds you you enter your own name.katejo said:

But anyway, it doesn't really matter; have you tried again using your own name?1 -
How quickly after opening was this? I was told to wait at least 2 days, to ensure that the account details would be available (to FD) when making a payment.
