Easylife - a warning

Beware the company Easylife - they've been fined in the past (Google it) for their behaviour.

If you / people you know have ever used them, check for unexpected card payments coming out of your account. There may be multiple instances.

If you see any, contact your bank and get them to block any future payments to Easyife.

  • My husband recently purchased something for Easylife and he received a call from his bank fraud team advising that two payments of £18.50 had been attempted to be taken from his credit card.  He didn’t agree to this Reward Club as they had previously taken money from his account totalling £300, he only noticed this when checking is bank statement, we then checked back all his bank statements to 2021 and contacted them.  They did refund the money eventually but they have started attempting to take money again.  We have emailed them asking them to stop trying to take money from his credit card, but as yet we are still awaiting a reply.  I then contacted Easylife direct asking them to respond.  I would warn anyone purchasing goods from Easylife to be aware of this and to check their bank statements.
  • This company and all associated companies and there seem to be many, are a scam. They pray on the elderly and vulnerable. I am so appalled at what they have done to my 88 year old mother and on reading the many heart rending reviews on Trust Pilot for the numerous companies and Money Saving Expert I have spent hours with both the fraud team for my Mother’s Credit Card and with Action Fraud.
My Mother bought something from Easylife to aid her “well being” 6 years ago.
She then receives a cold call on 12th July 2024 and has apparently signed up to the Rewards club (I am informed of this when I ring the company demanding the money back to her credit card). My Mother did not sign up, did not give permission to use her credit card details which had last been used 6 years ago with them, so how did they do that? As expiry dates etc had changed. You can’t use a credit card which has expired! No one is safe. Definitely did not receive any rewards pack either.
They issue a letter which states they are The Rewards Club/The Motor Club. They are all part of Easylife.
The letter is even more confusing to older people. They do not use the English format for the date on their letters where they then are out to confuse the elderly even further. So for instance, my Mother’s letter had the date 08/09/2024 for cancelling it, if you could actually read it in the first place as it was so small. But what it actually was, was 09/08/2024. We are in England, surely this is not kosher, yet adds to the confusion.
How can anyone want to work for this company. Clearly they have no moral code. I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night. Which seems to be well known, but no one seems to be doing anything about!!!!!!!

My bank actually stopped the payment due to fraud.  From my conversation with them they were doing this routinely because it had happened so often.  I had used them once three years earlier, then this payment suddenly cropped up.

My elderly neighbour noticed payments coming out of her account to Easylife and Rewards Club a month after buying a gardening product. Seven unauthorised payments totalling over £130. I phoned them on her behalf and they had signed her up to their rewards club. She had no recollection of authorising this and on basic pension can't afford subscriptions. They agreed to refund the payments (done multiple payments on the same day) and make sure the subscription was removed and no further payments taken. We checked her statements last week and the refund was there along with three further unauthorised payments. We contacted her bank. Her card has had to be cancelled, the bank found yet another payment since the statement meaning another £78 was gone in the space of a month. The bank will do a temporary refund of the recent payments and pursue Easylife for a refund. My concern is that this appears to be so widespread and targeting the elderly, but the bank said as its a subscription they won't treat it as criminal. Surely this is fraud and the company should be prosecuted?

In view of my experience if you have ever had dealings with them even years earlier watch out.  From what my bank fraud dept said they are automatically treating these payments as fraud as it has happened so often.  I will be watching for a recurrence though just in case.
