Have mums home insurance with Hastings direct, They don't want to insure the property from next month (Policy expires) as its not occupied. They say I need a specialist policy.

Can anyone recommend an Insurance provider for unoccupied homes.

Thanks

I used Towergate .Not cheap but a broad and flexible scope of cover which suited our circumstances.

I guess you mean not occupied?

When relative died M&S Insurance were happy to continue to cover the unoccupied property.  Was able to pay slight premium to keep cover for all resonable eventualities. Very easy to deal with.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

Unoccupied insurance seems to vary greatly in price. Some of the online firms prices I found surprisingly scary. Cheaper deals tend to have restrictions such as regular visits to the property and turning off the power. I used a broker Adrian Flux. I understand Swinton also can arrange. OH went through Swinton, the policy was a bit more expensive than standard buildings and contents. Now the bungalow sale has completed and they’ve refunded premium to reflect the months that cover is no longer needed, without even charging an admin fee. Which exceeded my expectations.

I used Homeprotect for a (largely empty and unfurnished) unoccupied property

I can't comment on how good they would have been if I'd had to claim, but I did find them less expensive than others that I looked at, and I could pay monthly, although the cancellation fee when we finally sold the house was several months payments.

Swinton were unable to provide me with a quote

I guess this might depend on the details.

I used A Plan insurance. They have an unoccupied house policy.

It came with the usual restrictions such as visiting regularly, water off or heating on during certain months. Cost wise they were very competitive and quickly processed a refund once the property sold.

Never had to actually claim so can't comment on that.

Ive used First2Protect. They already insured the property before my mum died, and have continued to do so since last March 2022.
