Directt Line Car Database does not have Honda new car names on it

We have just ordered a new Honda Jazz and tried to change our Direct Line insurance from the old Jazz to the new one and they will not accept the new names that Honda use fot the Honda Jazz models.  DL say that because their database is not up-to-date they will not insure it and have told us to go to another insurance company who have a better up-to-date database. The Honda dealer will not get involved and so we cannot yet get to corporate  Honda to tell them  DL will not insure their new model named cars because they cannot bother to keep up to date with their new namng.  This market is clearly broken.

What happens if you type the reg of the car in their website?

Normal action is that you enter your reg, the insurer brings back the information from the DVLA and then uses internal mapping rules to determine the rating factor for that vehicle. 

It wont be due to "names" per say but simply they havent got a mapping for your particular vehicle. If it was something exotic then it could be a case of them just not being aware of it however this isnt and so would more point to them having made an active decision not to insure this vehicle for some reason. 

Back in my Motor days we had a weekly pricing meeting where the pricing analyst would list the dozen new vehicles about to be launched and their proposed initial mapping based on existing models and they were broadly just nodded through an implemented by that afternoon and live the following morning. The new Honda were announced too long ago for someone not to have spotted it yet.

As always though, if one insurer doesnt like you someone else will.
