Hi, I'm doing my latest round of current account switches.
I was applying for the HSBC Advance account and got called away. My application timed out after I got approved for the overdraft but before I chose whether to take one out or not. Last thing I remember being asked before it timed out was whether to continue with or without overdraft. To me, that suggests my application was not finalised.
I had no emails or anything involving a reference number for an application but have had these texts:
"Thanks for your recent application. We’re busier than usual and it may take longer to process. You don’t need to do anything. We’ll be in touch soon. Please ignore this SMS if you have chosen not to proceed."
"Thank you for applying for an HSBC account. We’re reviewing your application and will be in touch soon. Please ignore this SMS if you have chosen not to proceed."
1. Can I just start from scratch online in a few days (as it says I can just ignore the texts if I "chose not to proceed")? Would it require another credit check (though I can probably take the hit for that tbh)?
2. The terms as far as I can see say I need to "qualify" for a £1k optional overdraft. But I don't need it so do I actually need to have the overdraft to get the switch bonus or is qualifying enough?
Has anyone else done this recently and got the bonus without taking out the optional overdraft?
So annoying if getting called away for 10 mins means I miss out on £200! (£240 with TCB!)
I did a load of switches for incentives a few years ago but it never involved needing an overdraft - I've never had one - so sorry if I sound stupid on that front or indeed any other! Thanks!
