My executor got my fathers application for probate sorted by Coop legal care this was sent at the end of April which is about 4 weeks ago. Can I view progress of this application online?
What is the current wait time on having a probate granted in the UK?
once this has been granted (there shouldn’t be any IHT to be paid) .
There is no debts to be paid.
my fathers property can be sold within 3 weeks.
Is it then that my executor start to release monies and assets from my fathers estate? How long after probate is granted roughly would be be?

thanks

    1. No. If the executor is a legal professional they may be registered to do so using https://www.gov.uk/guidance/myhmcts-online-case-management-for-legal-professionals. Otherwise they may be able to track another way but see https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/6441924/new-probate-tracking-system-but-inaccurate
    2. Varies enormously. Some applications are granted within a matter of a few weeks, others are typically taking 10-12 weeks (and no, sadly there's no way to hurry it along!).
    3. Talk to your executor. They will be able to tell you what they will do. Some are extremely cautious, others will consider an interim distribution, and others are of the 'dive straight in and distribute asap' variety.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

From your previous post Coop Legal indicatted a time scale of 9 to 12 months to administer the estate. Using a solicitor or legal service does increase the time scale even on a simple estate.

OH received probate after a month. He plans to make an interim distribution within a month of the house sale. The final distribution will be a year on from his mum’s death.

If an Executor distributes too early/too much they may have to repay creditors from their own pocket so it’s not in their interest to rush things. OH is currently finalising utility and insurance payments/credits and cashing in savings. He will need to pay tax on savings before the final distribution and will also hold back some cash to cover anything unforeseen. As insurance against missing anything, we’ve got the Estate Accounts ready in draft form.

Apparently the Executor(s) are quite within their rights to decline to distribute anything before a year is up (English rules) and having helped with it all I can see why!
