Full card details on receipt rules

I’m curious to know whether outlets are allowed/meant to include your full card number on receipts. I thought now they were required by law to only include the last few digits.
I was just checking through my receipts and noticed that a bar I was in last week has included my full card number on all the receipts. I didn’t think outlets were meant to do this these days. Should I be concerned that my card details are ‘out there?’

I've never heard of it being a legal requirement to obfuscate the card number. Do you have a source for that?
I think fraudsters would still need your CVV number and expiry date to do much with the main card number.1 -
Did it also have your name, expiry date and CVV code on the receipt?Zdoodle46 said:I’m curious to know whether outlets are allowed/meant to include your full card number on receipts. Any idea who this particular bar is using to process card payments? Under Payment Card Industry (PCI) rules printing full card numbers on receipts would cause the provider to fail an audit very quickly. What the online transaction indicate, eg. Zettle etc.
The full card number has to be used and stored securely, but should never be displayed.4 -
Your card details are out there anyway. As they are/can be on the retailers copy.
It is good practise for retailer not to have full card number on customer receipt. So wonder if they gave you their copy.Life in the slow lane3 -
If you paid by contactless, it's likely that they gave you a duplicate of the merchant receipt, as a few brands of PDQ cannot print a cardholder receipt when you pay using contactless. The merchant receipts always have the full card number and expiry date on them.4

In my experience no PDQ's print out a customer receipt for contactless... that was part of the marketing push initially... if you remember the water slide advert..themrnf said:If you paid by contactless, it's likely that they gave you a duplicate of the merchant receipt, as a few brands of PDQ cannot print a cardholder receipt when you pay using contactless. As others have said the merchant copy will normally have them in case a refund is required. They normally state “CARDHOLDER” or “CUSTOMER “ at the top of yours and “MERCHANT COPY” on theirs.1
