O2 refuse to accept 30days notice

My question is does my responsibility end after 30days notice? Who’s responsible for cutting off sims and service after 30days?

I called O2 gave 30days notice. Asked for a final bill. I have two contracts, one mine one my teenage son. One had approx £80 to pay on device plan. I asked for a final bill for this. Because O2 is incompetent I then did this in writing on the online chat thing. Took a screen shot. Requested pac codes which was also a drama, made very clear I was giving 30days notice, asking for final bill.

O2 then did not acknowledge my notice and after the 30days notice period continued as normal, charging me for another 2months. My son didn’t remove his sim, he only uses what’s app etc and so wouldn’t notice as he only uses wifi anyway. O2 now refusing acknowledge date of notice because there was ‘use on sim’

As far as I was concerned the sims were void after 30days notice. Is that correct? Does my responsibility end after 30days notice? Is there anything in the small print about this?

Thank you everyone

If you have requested a PAC code to move your number to another provider, then 30 days doesn't apply, because it will happen the next working day at about 11am when you give that and your temporary number to your new provider.

Note that just requesting a PAC code doesn't do anything on its own regarding your service with a provider.  You have to give that to the new provider.  If you're not moving  provider its pointless requesting a PAC code.

It sounds like you're not actually leaving o2, you're staying with them and you're just out of your minimum term?  Is that correct?

Hi it really depends on what your contract says about ending the service. Most people will join another provider using either a pac (existing number) or stac (new number). If you are simply deciding to go wifi only it is a bit more complicated. The safest way is probably to pac your number to a payg sim.
I would imagine most networks would have specific requirements regarding the wording and format of cancellation requests, and confirmation of account holder identity

As already stated , if you requested  a PAC code but didn’t use it because you never really intended to port your number or numbers , to another provider, then it simply expires, it’s as if you never requested a PAC in the first place.
If all you want is to stop being a VF customer and the mobile number isn’t important to you, so allowing the phone numbers associated with your account to simply cease to exist , then that’s simply serving your 30 day notice to quit , if you did that as well as requesting a PAC , that’s a bit confusing , you cannot ask VF to cease your service while at the same time put in place a potential attempt to port your number to someone else.

If you ported the number  to someone else it serves your notice to quit anyway.

All good advice but best to change VF to O2.

Depends on t&c's. Requesting a pac would not be notice to quit, so some contracts might start the 30 days from the transfer being initiated. If you need to give notice you should be able to do that and then request a pac to keep your number.

    From paccodes.co.uk

Get your PAC Code in ONE MINUTE:

From July 2019, Ofcom introduced text-to-switch so that obtaining your PAC code became even easier. Using text-to-switch, you can immediately obtain and use your PAC code when switching mobile phone provider. You no longer need to call your current provider - customers were often frustrated by their current providers' unwanted attempts to persuade them to stay. Detailed instructions are available on the text-to-switch website.

IMPORTANT: You can sign up to a new contract with another mobile phone network before requesting your PAC Code however you should not terminate your mobile phone contract until you have requested and used your PAC Code. If you fail to observe this, then you will potentially lose your existing mobile phone number.

The OP appears to have thought an unused PAC code would still serve notice , or alternatively having a cease request and a PAC pending ( that elapsed) resulted in no action at all being taken by VF , basically use on or the other , not both.

Who is VF in this context?
I could guess Vodafone, but the OP only mentions O2.
