I'm just about ready to throw my HP Envy 6000 out of the window. I just want a reliable, easy to set up home printer that will connect via an ethernet cable.

Any reason not to get a mono laser printer then? No issues with inkjet nosels getting blocked from under use etc
We've used the same toner for 5 years now, for the last 18 months it's been warning its low. The replacement toner is £251 -
I could recommend my cheap HP Envy 5540 inkjet that has been going strong for 7 years with not a hint of a clog, OK print quality and new cartridges about every 15 months but they don't sell them any more.
Once a model has been around long enough to prove its reliability it will have been replaced with a shiny new version.1 -
HP are getting more aggressive in requiring that you use eyewateringly-expensive HP ink cartridges.I've always found the Brother monochrome laser printers to be reliable and effective.2

Buy an ethernet connected laser printer. No wifi, no ink, solves over 90% of printer problems straight away.
Never had a problem with my Dell laser in a decade of ownership (they don't do printers any more though, sadly)Proud member of the wokerati, though I don't eat tofu.Home is where my books are.Solar PV 5.2kWp system, SE facing, >1% shading, installed March 2019.Mortgage free July 20231 -
Thank you very much for the advice everyone. It looks like an ethernet cable and a monochrome laser is the way to go. I hadn't considered a laser so I'm grateful to you for making me aware of that option.0

I have this Brother laser printer https://www.argos.co.uk/product/8576330?clickPR=plp:2:8 probably available cheaper elsewhere. I've been using it for a couple of years now for occasional printing and it's still on the toner cartridge it came with. Because I do comparatively little printing I was continually having trouble with inkjet nozzles blocking and then wasting money trying to clean the print heads. The additional initial outlay will soon repay itself.

If you are looking at Brother printers, the letter W on the end means wireless, the ones you want have an N at the end like the HL-L2370DN.Plus I do believe that Brother have finally started putting chips in the cartridges to force you to use their own, but with very low usage it could be years before you need one.I prefer to stick a nice reliable cable into the printer rather than rely on a dodgy wireless signal, which are always a pain to set up, and usually stop working when you really really need to print something right now or face disaster.
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
