I had the same experience in Spain Nov2023 and claimed as was a clinic for the local people and paid the going rate apparently NOT private for a respiratory infection.  Showed passport GHIC card etc.
Didn't claim on travel insurance and thought I'd get a reimbursement quicker.
Not to be, emailed NHS constantly, have an OHS number etc and they say the delay is on the side of the country and could be many months before am reimbursed.
Please only claim from your Insurance because I've totally lost the plot now regarding my lost £200 !!!!!
Upside was the medical treatment was far superior to NHS!!!

The fact that you have been given a prescription suggests that you have not followed the correct procedure - although nobody may know what is the correct procedure. As I understand things Spanish citizens have to be registered to be treated by the state and this causes a delay, so if you need prompt treatment for something minor you have to be treated outside the state system.

If it is an emergency the GHIC seems to work.
