I totally agree that the energy companies, and in particular BG make it hard to know where you are, 6 month billing is outrageous, especially in this day and age of Smart Meters and Computers, there is no reason that you cannot log into your account and know exactly where you are.  BG no longer give the daily readings/costs, you end up using a third party (LoopEnergy) App to know what you have or are using.  Don't refer me to the Smart Meter I have a E-On one, BG would not supply one when I switched to them, and that is about as much use as a wet lettuce.  It sits plugged in on the wall behind my meter, and has spells when it claims weak signal for days, then it can go for a month to 6 weeks OK.  I am looking to change, but cannot decide where, it is no monetary, as they are all almost the same, but would like one with lower daily charges.

You are confusing the portable In Home Device with the Smart Meter fixed to the wall.
The IHD does not have to be changed when you switch suppliers.
Try unplugging it for a while and moving it closer to the electricity meter.
  • 6 month billing is outrageous,
The answer is in your own hands. Switch to a supplier that offers monthly billing. Octopus also offers a secure API link to your actual energy account. I can access my energy usage/costs via third-party apps.
