Atom transfer in issues

Has anyone experienced any issues recently when attempting to transfer into a Fixed term Atom Bank saver? I opened one recently but when I tried to fund it from my Halifax current account they flagged it up as a high risk potential scam on two occasions. This is quite strange as I have done this on previous occasions with no problems.

How has Halifax flagged it as a high risk potential scam?

Were Halifax unable to carry out a Confirmation Of Payee check?

I've no idea, as I've attempted twice they've imposed a 24 hour block on any transfers out, as you can imagine I'm in the process of registering a formal complaint with the Halifax.

Ring them and ask to speak to their fraud team. So many banks seem to be imposing ridiculous procedures for transfers now.

The most ridiculous one I've had was Smile who blocked a transaction, waited two days then phoned me from a withheld number and started asking me security questions. I pointed out that answering security questions asked by someone on a withheld number is *exactly* how people get scammed so he gave me a number to ring. I rang it and I was on hold for over an hour and then subjected to a daft, lengthy and patronising interview that any scammer would have breezed through. It was the equivalent of asking passengers at an airport whether they are a terrorist. Questions like "Has anyone forced you to make this transfer?" and "How much was the transfer for?"

So I made a complaint and switched to another bank. I'd been a customer there for over 20 years. I wonder if they ever catch any real scammers or whether they just annoy their real customers.

This is a thread from 2023; you should enter your own name.

That's odd. Did you enter your own name as the Payee rather than Atom ?

Bear in mind that newly-created accounts don't usually get recognised by CoP straight away - it can be many hours or often the day after the account is set up so if you've opened it today, you could try waiting until tomorrow rather than risk tripping Halifax's anti-fraud measures.

If Halifax still isn't recognising the account even after waiting, then there must be an issue with Halifax because Atom have been a member of the Confirmation of Payee scheme since 2022. They were among the first banks to register once it rolled out beyond the major high street banks and buildings societies.
