Sheriff court executor letter

Hi,  my mum has passed away and I am her only surviving child. Having spoken to a clerk in the sheriff court office I believe I need to draft a letter to the court to be appointed as an executor of her estate. Does anyone have any advice on the wording as I fear it will need to be in legal speak which can be very specific with the wording.

The process can be different depending on the size of the estate. What is the approx value?
