Travel insurance Medical History

I have recently been diagnosed with Atrial Fibrillation / irregular heartbeat. I have just had a procedure which will hopefully restore my heart back to a normal rhythm. If the procedure is successful, do I need to declare the condition on future travel insurance policies?

You need to answer the questions honestly, for some questions it will be in the last X years and others are have you ever. So if the treatment is successful and the question says in the last 5 years then you could not declare it 5 years after last seeing your cardiologist or GP about it... if its an ever question you'll never be able to drop it.

Each insurer sets their own questions but most cardiac issues tend to be at the much longer end of the scale.
  • Thanks. It makes sense that I would have to declare it in order to answer the questions should they ask within the last 5 years or ever. I was wondering if they’d ask about if I have it now, however I agree with your answer, that it’s more likely that it will over a certain period.
I’d always be honest, as I would not want to invalidate my insurance.

They wont ever ask about "now", its a fractional point in time and would give the ability for almost anyone to say they arent suffering from any conditions. It'll always be a time range from today backwards by X years or since birth and it normally covers the range of symptoms, medication and appointments/tests as someone who is well medicated with ACE inhibitors could say they dont have high blood pressure but thats because they take medicines every day
