The tree looks beautiful and a great size for your garden (won’t quickly outgrow the space) and would take years to regrow to replace. It is an asset to your house for shade and biodiversity and amenity value if you sell. It won’t lift and replant, due to fragile roots, so has no value except in situ as a living thing. Maples also show good resistance to extremes of climate.

What is the real play requirement here ? If it’s kicking a ball about, that will quickly outgrow that space with or without the tree. The tree could form part of a goalpost and the kids would develop good skills avoiding it. I know we always enjoyed biking and throwing around the trees in our garden as kids. Also could the kids  develop  team and social skills by joining friends playing in a local open space or sports field ? or maybe you could organise / join a local ‘playing out’ street -  areas that are traffic  free for a period of time for kids to play (search online for details of these schemes)
