Improving Credit Rating

aspirations

I hadn't used a credit card for ages, so for the best part of a year I've been working to improve my credit rating. There was one discrepancy on one of my credit files, it turned out my broadband company had refunded my account with £12 twice in July 2022 and I hadn't noticed. They accepted responsibility and changed the record, so that should be sorted out soon. All the credit reference agencies suggest I can improve my credit rating by applying for credit of over £4000. My current card only offers £750. I have used the MSE (soft search) tool online but they don't seem to confirm what credit limit will be approved, presumably until you actually apply.
Can anyone suggest where I am most likely to succeed in getting credit of over £4000 please?

Don't take any advice from the CRAs or try to change the credit ratings. They're not relevant to anything.
It's always worth having more than one card, but it doesn't need a 4k limit. You'll be offered what the lender is comfortable with.0 -
You can safely ignore the meaningless twaddle that's spouted by the CRAs - after all, they're not the ones lending you money. Just use a credit card for everyday purchases (food, petrol, whatever) and always repay the statement in full every month, without fail. That the simplest (and free) way to build up a positive history. If you have need for a higher limit then by all means apply for another card - a lender's own eligibility checker will usually give a slightly more accurate indication of your chance of acceptance than a generic third-party checker. But you won't know what limit you'll actually be given until your application is processed and approved. But don't go chasing a higher limit just for the sake of it. If your current card does what you need then stick with it.0

Most credit reference agencies are credit brokers, which is why their "advice" is always tailored towards applying for credit cards, via their referral link.
