Cost of living universal credit

Hello I have now been awarded a small amount of universal credit claim period was April 17th to May 16th. I'm just wondering is I will now qualify for any cost of living payments.

Thanks

That month isn't the qualifying period for the £301 CoL payment. The criteria is, you must have been entitled to a payment of UC for any assessment period that ended between 26th Jan to 25th Feb 2023. If you weren't entitled to a payment for that period you will not be entitled to the first payment. https://www.gov.uk/guidance/cost-of-living-payment#low-income-benefits-and-tax-credits-cost-of-living-payment

The future payments crtieria hasn't been announced yet as the next one of £300 isn't due until the Autumn.

If you remain entitled to a payment of UC then you may qualify for the next COL payment.

The do not announce the qualifying dates in advance though, that's (supposedly) to prevent potential fraud.

    Hi Poppy,

My friend applied for UC on 9/2/2023 (granted)

I helped her to fill in the form… that said put a question on the journal so she did.

    Here is the response.

“ You are eligible for the first Cost of Living Payment of £301 if you were entitled to a payment (or later found to be entitled to a payment) of Universal Credit for an assessment period that ended in the period 26 January 2023 to 25 February 2023. As your first assessment period runs from 9 February to 8 March 2023 you do not qualify for this Cost of Living payment.

    Thank you”

I can’t see how to do an appeal.

In the moneysavingexpert article it says “ … eligible for a payment of one of the  […] tax credits listed below for ANY day between 26 January 2023 and 25 February 2023.”  Is this incorrect?

    Can anyone help?

The assessment period had to end between those dates, your friend claimed between those dates but their assessment period finished outside of the dates so does not qualify.
    There is nothing to appeal.

    Above is correct

With some other benefits there are multiple dates that you might qualify, with UC you only get one date.

There's nothing to appeal because they aren't entitled to it. The criteria for Tax credits is completely different to UC.
