National Insurance top up - my NI record "Year is not full status" won't update!

My NI record shows "Full Year" or all years going back except for "2006 to 2007" and earlier.

When I click on "View details" it gives the message below

"2006 to 2007  Year is not full

Hide 2006 to 2007 details

We are checking this year to see if it counts towards your pension. We’ll update your record when this is finished, you do not need to do anything."

But this message hasn't changed for at least 2 months and I'm concerned about missing the opportunity to top up my pension. I am 66 years old and have been receiving State Pension for 4 months.

Any tips gratefully received.

Thanks

Mike

Ho much State Pension are you receiving (the weekly rate)?

Do you know how many pre 2016 years you had when your pension started?

Were you self employed in 2006-07?

Last month's pension received was £723.08 so a weekly equivalent of £166.86

My NI record shows I have 34 full years contribution and 16 when did not pay enough

    I was self-employed in 2006-2007

    Thanks

SP is paid four weekly  not monthly.

    £723.08/4 = £180.07.

Do you mean that you had 34 qualifying years pre 6/4/16?

    OK thanks.   Yes £180.07 equivalent.

15 years of qualifying "full years" back to 2007-2008 then "Year is not full" for several years back from 2006-2007.

Total "full years" are 34 going back to 1975.
    • "34 years of full contributions"  per the NI summary webpage inc 15 years from 2006-2007 to date
    Thanks

Have a look at page 6 here

    https://www.dpf.org.uk/explorer/files/TOPPING-UP-YOUR-STATE-PENSION-GUIDE.pdf

This was produced at inception of NSP.

Your "starting amount" at 6/4/16 was the higher of

    Old Rules

NI Qualifying Years/30 (max) x £119.30 (Full Basic) + (Additional State Pension - (if applicable) Deduction for Contracting Out).

    New Rules

{NIQY/35 (max) x £155.65 (Full NSP)} - (if applicable) Contracted Out Pension Equivalent.

All years 2016/17 to 2021/22 (last possible QY, being the last full tax year before you reached SPA) are full.

    You cannot buy pre 2006/7.

Therefore as you say, it is a question of establishing the status of 2006/7.

What was your NI situation in that year?

As you are in receipt of your state pension, you will need to contact DWP.

2 years on and I'm getting the same message -

"We are checking this year to see if it counts towards your pension. We’ll update your record when this is finished, you do not need to do anything."

    Yet nothing happens ................................

Just 3 weeks to the new deadline and I can't progress beyond this message!!!

What's going on, are they swamped with enquiries??

What have you done to resolve this?  HMRC won't be doing anything if you don't take some proactive action.

I've actioned my NI record to ask for details but nothing has happened.  In the normal course of events, I'd expect a reply which I can action.  No reply has been given, what can I do?
I doubt if I'm the only user who is stuck at this point.

Has the HMRC website been so inundated after last night's Martin Lewis program?

It was overstretched before Martin's show.

Are you certain that year would make a difference to your pension ? Do you have under 30 pre 2016 years ?
Maybe requesting a call back may get someone to look at it on the spot  Request a call back to pay voluntary National Insurance contributions - GOV.UK
