Garden hose spray lance

For years we have been using a spray lance with our hose with no issues, until last year when a storm broke it beyond repair.  So we bought a replacement.  The hose is Hozelock and the lance was also Hozelock.  However we saw the reviews were not good saying it wasnt as good as previously.  We gambled and went ahead and bought it.  It is now leaking badly from the trigger.

Does anyone know (from experience perhaps?) if we can use any brand to fit the hozelock hose or if it still needs to be the hozelock brand for the lance?

Is there a general connection between the hose and the lance?

Most of Hozelock have click on fittings and you can take the fitting with you to try against other gadgets.

Got to say they used to be good but I just thought today that nothing seems to fit tight or take of easily as they used to do and I was considering something different - but not seen much else on the market. They dominate it. Perhaps got lazy because of a lack of competition.

Thatsa good idea to see if I can take a part of the fitting with me.  Yes there are very few choices out there on the market - either in person or online.  Saw one today, an unknown brand, that said was compatiable with most brands.  Worth trying the fitting in the shop I reckon.
