£2k for a complete bedroom refurbishment

Hi.

My bedroom is around 6x3m and we're getting it completely done from top to bottom.

Ceiling stripped, painted and a new light fitted.

Walls stripped and painted

New skirting and flooring installed

2 radiators replaced

Light switch and 2 plug sockets replaced.

Internal wardrobe stripped, walls made good and new drawers made/purchased (don't know their plan). Wardrobe is around 2x1m.

We'll be buying the paint, radiators, skirting, light, plug, flooring etc. They will be getting the stuff for the wardrobe.

All they are charging is £2k.

Does this sound about right? What actually threw me off is the wardrobe. I've got quoted (and tried to proceed with) various carpenters and fitters and the quote on that alone was almost £2k.

Very light grey walls with light wood flooring. What colour curtain would you recommend?

I've allocated up to £6k for my bedroom refit but I haven't asked for quotes yet. Id be very suspicious if they could do all that for £2k. In your shoes I'd go thru the detailed plans, specs, quality of finishes, materials etc, or you might be disappointed with the end result.

OP said they were sourcing all the materials and flooring, so the quality of the end result would be down to them

That seems about right if you are buying all the materials. I assume they can either buy standard size drawers and make them fit, or make them themselves ( not that hard to do or expensive ). Allow £500 for the wardrobe and that leaves £1500 for labour for the rest. It's all pretty simple straightforward stuff.

If you don't have any other colours in the design I would go for a dark grey / charcoal colour

As above, if that's £2,000 with the materials you're purchasing on top, I think that's about right...obviously depending where you are in the country.

Re the wardrobe, they could be looking at using something like the Ikea Pax wardrobe system which is very easy to make it look like a built in wardrobe.
